Two years after its initial launch in China, the book "Contemporary Chinese Furniture Design" by designer Jerry J.I. Chen has been published in English translation for readers around the world. The publication shows with great detail the culture of modern Chinese furniture and aims to present to the Western public the innovations of design in China today. Chen has been working in the design field for three decades, during which time he has accumulated in-depth knowledge and experience, illustrated in his publication. The designer did not receive formal training, however, he was inspired by his many travels. Throughout his life, Chen has also been a passionate collector of ancient Chinese art. As a result, the book links classical and contemporary Chinese design, creating a new aesthetic for furniture in China. Australian architect and designer Ameé Allsop has launched a collection of minimalist furniture made of bleached American ash and travertine. The collection, called Pure Minimalist, presents simple tables and chairs made of flat planes of American ash and an angular shelf made of travertine. "My love for home and the art of living has led me to design this collection," said Allsop. "There is architecture in everything". Allsop, born in Sydney, said the clean lines, pale colors and palette of natural materials in the collection were informed by the minimalist art movement of the late 1950s, as well as by the beach landscape surrounding her House in Hamptons, a group of villages on the east end of Long Island, New York. For Allsop, who has worked as an architect in Sydney and New York for the past 12 years, Pure Minimalist is her first furniture collection. On a sun-soaked cliff off the coast of Helsinki, the Nolla Cabin offers affordable, eco-friendly accommodation—all in 97 square feet. Created by Helsinki–based designer Robin Falck for energy company Neste’s Journey to Zero campaign, the Nolla Cabin uses a back-to-nature approach to inspire guests to adopt a minimal environmental footprint. Overlooking stunning views of the archipelago, the one-bedroom building is furnished with two camping beds, a small cooking nook, and other locally procured sustainable furnishings. Building off of his previous Nido Cabin design, Robin Falck developed the Nolla Cabin prototype in the span of five to six weeks. The cabin was prefabricated from locally sourced Kerto LVL plywood at the Protos Demos workshop in one week, and then swiftly installed at Vallisaari with minimal landscape impact. The cabin's "paws" elevate the structure, making it easy to transport and assemble. This also helps to not leave a trace on the land
