Pure Minimalist Furniture Collection Takes Cues From Beach Landscape Of The Hamptons

Image
Australian architect and designer Ameé Allsop has launched a collection of minimalist furniture made of bleached American ash and travertine. The collection, called Pure Minimalist, presents simple tables and chairs made of flat planes of American ash and an angular shelf made of travertine. "My love for home and the art of living has led me to design this collection," said Allsop. "There is architecture in everything". Allsop, born in Sydney, said the clean lines, pale colors and palette of natural materials in the collection were informed by the minimalist art movement of the late 1950s, as well as by the beach landscape surrounding her House in Hamptons, a group of villages on the east end of Long Island, New York. For Allsop, who has worked as an architect in Sydney and New York for the past 12 years, Pure Minimalist is her first furniture collection. "It's not a mistake if the collection represents the minimalist landscape of Hamp...

An A-Frame Cabin Celebrates Your Vacation Days

Image
On a sun-soaked cliff off the coast of Helsinki, the Nolla Cabin offers affordable, eco-friendly accommodation—all in 97 square feet. Created by Helsinki–based designer Robin Falck for energy company Neste’s Journey to Zero campaign, the Nolla Cabin uses a back-to-nature approach to inspire guests to adopt a minimal environmental footprint. Overlooking stunning views of the archipelago, the one-bedroom building is furnished with two camping beds, a small cooking nook, and other locally procured sustainable furnishings. Building off of his previous Nido Cabin design, Robin Falck developed the Nolla Cabin prototype in the span of five to six weeks. The cabin was prefabricated from locally sourced Kerto LVL plywood at the Protos Demos workshop in one week, and then swiftly installed at Vallisaari with minimal landscape impact. The cabin's "paws" elevate the structure, making it easy to transport and assemble. This also helps to not leave a trace on the land...

Yellow Furniture Is Trending Right Now

Image
Whether it's the current heat wave this summer or the shades of the sun that are seen in famous fashionistas, the yellow color is great news at the moment. From the yellow Stella McCartney dress by Amal Clooney at the royal wedding, the bright yellow dress Brandon Maxwell by Meghan Markle at the Your Commonwealth Youth Challenge reception and Kate Middleton's Dolce & Gabbana yellow dress at Wimbledon, the recent fashion outlets at High profile have undoubtedly fueled the madness for Canarian colors. As the color of happiness and sunlight, yellow always brings a feeling of optimism and is the best color to lift spirits. But, of course, yellow is not a color only limited to fashion. It has been used for a long time at home to add a touch of color much needed to interiors, and, for example, yellow and gray are a popular color scheme to opt for decoration. But according to new sales data from furniture retailer Swoon, searches for yellow furniture have doubled i...

5 Ways to Squeeze a Dog Bed into a Small Space

Image
It is not a novelty that the property of a dog entails some important changes in life: getting up early to walk to said puppy, budgeting emergency vet bills, pick up 💩! But there is a change that we do not talk enough about: rearrange your space to fit a gawky four-legged creature. There are the toys, the leash, the dog food, the bowls and the biggest object of all, the bed. Your apartment was probably already on the opposite side; Squeezing an unmanageable cushion is not an easy task. In other words, good luck not to trip over her in the middle of the night. What is a canine lover to do? Forget about the traditional dog bed. There are many innovative designs that have made us reconsider what a dog bed is. When square footage is essential, your dog's things should also be things of the people, as in functional furniture or at least a good-looking decoration. Keep reading to see what we want to say. 1. This Startup Lets You Rent Insanely Chic Furniture — Would You Try It?

If you currently reside in a large city (specifically in New York), you have probably found yourself dragging heavy furniture and boxes up several flights of stairs into a tiny apartment without an elevator at some point in your life. After which, of course, you immediately learned your lesson and decided to spend $ 1k + on engines worth it, even if it's ridiculous. Well, listen to me: especially when you're young and you probably can not afford the apartment of your dreams, you move a lot. It is a nuisance, it is expensive, and I would even say that it is the bane of my existence. Fortunately (in case you are looking at me with disagreement or even disapproval), I know I am not the only one. In fact, this was the exact reason why Jay Reno, founder and CEO of Feather, started his company. "Feather helps people to own less and live longer," says their site. "We want you to have beautifully designed furniture without worrying about buying, assembling,...

Who? Shin Okuda, founder of furniture and design studio Waka Waka, hails from Japan, but moved to Los Angeles 20 years ago. "I had been offered a strange and strange job in Arizona," he explains. "It was as a travel agent, back then, there were a lot of Japanese businessmen who went to Scottsdale to play golf, so I was only looking after the golfers, I stayed in Arizona for two months and then I moved to Los Angeles to see how things would go. " Then, from 2003, Okuda found a job making sculptures for fine artists. "I worked in different art studios for some years, in 2009 I started doing my own things, but it was not sculpture, I started making furniture". That same year, Okuda met his wife Kristin Dickson, who had just opened a commercial space on Sunset Boulevard called Iko Iko. "When it opened, I went to see the store and I made friends with it, and then I started making furniture for its events, people started getting intere...
